Back to work

July 10th 2020

2020 has been a very strange year so far, but after these long lockdown months, we're ready to open our doors once again.

Normally, March for us would be spent getting the workshop ready for visitors from around the world. Orkney is one of the most popular destinations in the UK and over the course of the spring and summer we'd usually welcome hundreds of people through the doors.

The truth is, these comings and goings are at the heart of our business, and many of our sales get shipped across the globe to catch up with their owners after they've arrived home from their dream holidays.

As the COVID-19 pandemic really began to take hold, we all went into lockdown and closed our doors, we did have many sleepless nights trying to figure out what to do next.

Thankfully, we had a number of orders already in the book and were able to keep working on those, and we were delighted to see a steady stream of enquiries arrive via our website, social media and even over the phone.

We're so grateful to all our customers for their support - it's appreciated now more than ever.

So, we've been back at work for a while now, crafting new pieces of furniture and toying with some new ideas.

And this month visitors are set to start arriving in our islands again. We'll be glad to see them as it has been such a quiet season so far. But there will be some changes for us here at Orkney Hand Crafted Furniture.

We've decided that we're going to open our workshop for appointments only from Wednesday 15th July. This means we'll be able to ensure both your and our safety when you visit, and hopefully no-one will miss out either. So, here's what you need to do if you're planning to pop in and see us this summer:

  • Get in touch via Facebook, email us at fraser@orkneyhandcraftedfurniture.co.uk or phone us on 07742 428 727, and we'll do our best to find a time that suits for you to come and meet us.
  • We'll be wearing a face covering, and we'd be really grateful if you would too.
  • We'll provide you with gloves to wear so you can touch our furniture (we'll also make sure any surfaces are cleaned before and after each visit too).
  • Keep physical distancing guidelines in mind when you're here too.

Hopefully, if we all work together, I'll be able to showcase some of our Orkney furniture and get the chance to meet you all - safely - once again (which is actually my favourite bit about the summer)!

We're looking forward to seeing you.
